Dating and relationships can be hard work for many of us. This week, I want to share a resource that helped me personally many years ago, just before I met my husband.
4 Things that Block INFP Writers
We know that INFP writers are spontaneous, imaginative and burst forth with creative ideas. But as an intuitive type, we have specific challenges when we start writing and try to fit our quirky process in a mold that might be “normal” but that doesn’t quite fit us. […]
Why you Might not Fit the INFP Stereotype: The Clash with the Inferior Function
When we talk about INFPs, the typical image that comes to mind is of Thoreau going out to live in the woods or Chris McCandles’ character in Jon Krakauer’s book Into the Wild. We think of seekers, those people who might have left the mainstream in different ways in order to find themselves. But even though you are an INFP and most definitely a seeker, you might not have followed this path of unfettered exploration. You might not have lived out of your car, taken to the woods or taken a year off to backpack.
If you have ever wondered why you didn’t take this uncharted path (although like me, it probably called to you at some point), the answer might lie in the interesting relationship between the INFP Dominant Function of Introverted Feeling and our Inferior Function, which is Extraverted Thinking.
The Difference Between Empathy and Compassion
As an empath, you might often find yourself running dry, feeling resentment pile up. You might feel unseen and unheard while you extend your own self to really hearing and seeing other people. In the past several months, I have been thinking more and more about why my empathy has become problematic instead of being a wonderful connector.
When I think about the past, I remember feeling extremely affected by the suffering in the world when I was a child. But I also remember a feeling of being connected to something bigger than myself, to an unending source of sustenance. I don’t know if it was God or Universal Energy or whether we can actually find a name for it, but there was something that I was very sure existed, something beyond me.
Practical Minimalism for Highly Sensitive People
There is a lot of interest and talk online about minimalism. As a philosophy, minimalism feels attractive to me. There is the promise of a simpler life, a life more aligned with what’s essential.
But because I am a creative person, I am also a magpie. I go out into the world and collect shiny things, new and old. I am attracted to them because I love something about them – maybe their artistry, maybe the story behind them. And so, I have become interested in understanding and practicing simplicity in a way that works for me, that helps me in my life but does not curtail my many passions. This week, I would like to first share a story that goes to the heart of why I want a simpler life. Then, I would like to talk about what I am learning about the philosophy of simplicity.
