In a video of between-takes, an audience member asks comic & The Daily Show correspondent Dulce Sloan about the biggest challenge she has had getting to where she is.
She says, Hope.
And continues: “People don’t talk about how hard hope is.”
Dulce Sloan always comes across as fun, sassy and really positive. And I think it bears underlining that just because someone is a positive person doesn’t mean that hope always comes easy to them.
Whether it’s working towards an “impossible dream” like Dulce or when we’re going through our darkest times, we can often find hope flagging and the inner light dimming. Sometimes, people conflate positivity with being Pollyanna-like, cheerfully looking at the bright side & not feeling or noticing the hard stuff. But positivity is not about saying “The house is burning down, but at least it’s keeping my hands warm.”
Positivity is not delusional.
Instead, it’s the minute-by-minute process of believing, disbelieving and trying our best to keep the inner light going even when conditions are tough, even when we’re almost ready to give up.
I love how Dulce Sloan talks about the reality of having hope.
It was also really interesting to hear about the dream her mother had that gave her inspiration and directed her career path. I think connecting to our unconscious through dreams helps us connect to our intuition. For people like us, HSPs & sensitive creatives who are deeply connected to our inner world, dreams are a direct link to the mystery, to that unknowable something that can guide us, and from which we all come.
In the meanwhile, check out the lovely Dulce Sloan talking about hope in this 5-minute video:
