I am thrilled to be a fellow at Rooted & Written, the first fully-funded conference for Writers of Color in the United States (yay!). It’s hosted by The Writer’s Grotto in San Francisco and has patronage from partners like the California Arts Council.
I am part of the Fiction workshop and I will be working on a story during my time there.
The conference includes some amazing Keynote speakers and several virtual sessions are also open to the general public. (August 14 to August 20, 2022.)
If you’re a reader or a writer who wants to attend the public events, check out the schedule HERE. More details below!
Keynotes this year will feature literary luminaries Hector Tobar, winner of the Pulitzer Prize; Victoria Chang, award-winning poet, writer, editor, and critic, and author of OBIT; Natalie Baszile, award-winning author and filmmaker, and the creator of the novel Queen Sugar, which inspired the TV drama of the same name; and Ingrid Rojas Contreras, author of the just-released 2022 memoir The Man Who Could Move Clouds, named a “Most Anticipated Book of the Year” by Time, Today, Entertainment Weekly, Bustle, Ms. Magazine, the Seattle Times, Electric Literature, and more.
The conference will close with a reading by all fellows called Words of Color on August 20. Details for how to attend virtually HERE.
We are all shaped by stories — both those that get told and those we find ourselves missing from. So, I am thrilled to be part of this group that will be adding new and unique stories to the cultural mix.
