The Empath’s Journey is my memoir of redefining my relationship with my sensitivity and is set in the first few years after I relocated from India to the United States in 2012. It was soon after the move that I read Dr. Elaine Aron’s book The Highly Sensitive Person and started understanding that my being “too sensitive” (those terrible words all sensitive people are often called) was rooted in biological differences.
With that began a new journey, deep into the heart of redefining my relationship with my own sensitivity.
Because this was also a time of great change in my life, I came face-to-face, once again, with the old ghosts of what being sensitive meant — getting overwhelmed when too much was happening, noticing subtle details that others around me missed but then feeling invalidated & unseen because I wasn’t mirrored back, and feeling as if things would be so much easier if I wasn’t so sensitive.
But in time, as I learned to see a fuller picture of my sensitivity, I also started seeing the opposite of this “cons list” of being sensitive. There were definite pros as well — my sensitivity alerted me to nuances about people very early on, it made me observe small details about the new culture I was now in that helped me understand it better, and it was, in fact, the well-spring of all my creative gifts.
My journey of understanding my sensitivity and reframing it has helped me become stronger. It has helped me learn what my kind of strength looks like (perseverance instead of pushing and forcing your way through), how to accept my different needs, and how to give myself what I need instead of waiting for others to give it to me.
Of course, I don’t do this perfectly! This journey is still ongoing. But when I look back at who I was seven years ago when I first moved to the States, it feels like I am looking at a different person. Now, I am much better at setting boundaries, at giving myself kind words and good energy, and listening to my intuition as it nudges me one way or the other.
So, if you want to check out my personal journey and the tools I have used to channel it in a positive way that might also be helpful for you, you can get a free copy of The Empath’s Journey for a limited time.
If you do get it and read it and like it, please consider leaving a review. As an artist, that would be very helpful to me in letting other readers learn about my work. But even if you don’t, thank you for your interest, and I hope something in my heart reflects something in yours and The Empath’s Journey helps you find a missing piece in your own puzzle of what it means to live life as a Highly Sensitive Person.
